Jean Sweeney Open Space Playground

Fundraising by the Kiwanis Club of Alameda for purchase of playground equipment

The Kiwanis Club of Alameda and the Alameda Kiwanis Foundation (recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization) are raising funds to build a playground at the Jean Sweeney Open Space Park.

Jean Sweeney Open Space Park is the only open space park of its kind in the area and it will fill a need for outdoor recreational space in an underserved area of Alameda.  Kiwanis have been serving the children and community of Alameda since 1923 and the Jean Sweeney Park has a close tie to Alameda Kiwanis. Jim Sweeney is a member of our service club and his wife Jean found the documents that allowed the city of Alameda to purchase over 20 acres of land at 1924 prices. Now we want to help build a playground at the East End of the Jean Sweeney Open Space Park but we need your help.

In fiscal year 2016-17, Kiwanis raised $25,000 which was matched with a grant from the Alameda Community Fund. This year, we are working to raise $5,000 which will again be matched by ACF to purchase additional items for the playground.

Be a part of the excitement. Give what you can. We will keep you updated and when the time comes the JSOSP Organization will have plenty of volunteer opportunities in the park.

There are 15,000 kids in the city that need outdoor play space that is safe, durable and fun.
